A May 27 2026 Harvard study led by researchers at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that diet and exercise are closely related to colorectal cancer (CRC) risk, the world’s second leading cancer leading to death.

The researchers used health data and stool samples (collected over about 12 years) of 354 participants enrolled in the Nurses’ Health Study II, women who had their adonema removed.

Participants with less healthy diets and lifestyle carried more microbes that are elevated in both adenoma and CRC patients, are a sustained CRC risk,” according to Ana Nogal, postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Epidemiology
